CapU Theatre offers two new courses!

We’re finally ready to share the news! Starting in Fall 2024, the CapU Theatre Department will be offering two new courses:

THTR 130 Acting: Foundations to Performance (Offered Fall 2024)
THTR 131 Improvisation: Foundations to Performance (Offered Spring 2025)

These courses are open to any CapU student: you do not have to audition to get in. They are CapCore approved for Creative & Cultural Expression.

Students in rehearsal at the Blueshore Theatre.

Both courses are introductory courses. They will go over fundamental concepts and practices of each craft. Both classes are studio classes with an emphasis on practical learning. You’ll be on your feet, learning by doing. No previous experience is required.

Both courses also have a limited class size of 20 in order to support this kind of practical learning environment.

In Acting, you’ll learn about connecting with your scene partner, finding your character objectives and beats, and how to bring an authentic performance to the stage or for the camera. You might do acting exercises, voice exercises, monologues, scene work, and more.

In Improvisation, you’ll learning about taking improvisation beyond comedy and into character-building, story-telling, and world-building. You’ll do improv games and exercises, delve into improvisational story-telling, and learn more about creating characters in the moment.

An in-class workshop on performance.

THTR 130 Acting: Foundations to Performance will be offered in the fall semester, starting in September 2024. THTR 131 Improvisation: Foundations to Performance will be offered in the spring, starting January 2025. (We may expand this offering if there is a demand for more!) Both classes will be taught by CapU Theatre instructors, who have extensive experience as instructors, and as professionals in the field of acting and performance.

Please reach out to our admin office at theatre@capilanou.ca if you have any questions.

We look forward to meeting you and sharing our love of acting & improv with you!
